Chelone glabra

image to come

Chelone is our native Turtlehead with white flowers that stand out beautifully against the dark green foliage. It is rhizomatous (spreading by rhizomes), so it is best to let it naturalize in an informal garden. Does well in boggy soil. Attracts butterflies. White flowers appear in July.

One of our New England Woodlanders: perennials that are native to New England, nursery propagated, but never collected from the wild; grown in New Hampshire.

Native to the United States.
