The popular Oriental poppy has large silky paper flowers that create a romantic and nostalgic effect in the garden. Plant with other large filler plants (e.g.boltonia or perovskia) to fill in the space after the poppy dies back in midsummer.'Watermelon' pink blooms contrast nicely with sharply toothed blue-green foliage that looks bristly, but is soft to the touch.
