This magnificent perennial, made popular here in the U.S. by Wolfgang Oehme, makes a huge shrub-like clump of lance-shaped dark green leaves. The flowers resemble an astilbe on steroids, making it very dramatic in bloom. Use it as a specimen or combine it with grasses. It is at it's best in moist soil. This persicaria will naturalize but is not invasive in our area. One of our favorites. Zones:3-9. Care tips: Old foliage can be cut to the ground in early spring.
